Droid phones

Everywhere we look we are seeing ads for TVs, video games and cell phones. Recently on Monday Night Football, there was an ad for a Droid phone. Everyone was kind of wondering what this is. This was a well done ad for a phone which is slowly gaining market share.

In a market where Apple and blackberries seem to be dominating, it seems every few years something changes. Think about 5 years ago, the only phone you ever heard about was the Motorola Razr. Five years later, Motorola has tried selling its cell phone division off to every possible company. Motorola’s success was so great that it hurt them.

Now Apple and blackberries seem to be the norm in the industry. Either a new blackberry or Iphone being released back to back, a new system seems to be taking over the market. It’s not a phone but a Phone Operating System. The Android platform is starting to spread to different phone makers and different providers. Android is doing the opposite of what apple seems to be doing. Android is making a platform which any developer can either make a program to customize or enhance your phone.

Every big phone company is now starting or testing a phone with this platform and it seems to be catching on. Experts predict that within the next 2 years, the market share will belong to phones running the android platform. The first model of this phone was the “Google” phone or G1. The G1 was a phone that featured touch screen and a full QWERY keyboard, but seemed to lack any decent power. Now the next generations of Android phones are being released and by different companies, a chance to continue its push in a large but crowded cell phone market.
